सूत उवाच
स एवमृषिवर्योऽयं पृष्टो राज्ञा परीक्षिता ।
प्रत्याह तं सुबहुवित्प्रीतात्मा श्रूयतामिति ॥ ५ ॥

शब्दार्थ
sūtaḥ uvāca — Śrī Sūta Gosvāmī said; - — he; evam — thus; ṛṣi-varyaḥ — the great ṛṣi; ayam — Śukadeva Gosvāmī; pṛṣṭaḥ — being questioned; rājñā — by the King; parīkṣitā — Mahārāja Parīkṣit; pratyāha — he replied; tam — unto the King; su-bahu-vit — highly experienced; prīta-ātmā — fully satisfied; śrūyatām — please hear me; iti — thus.
भाषांतर
Śrī Suta Gosvāmī said: The great sage Śukadeva Gosvāmī was highly experienced and was pleased with the King. Thus being questioned by the King, he said to him, “Please hear the topics attentively.”
